The RMC Bribie Island Escape 2024 was a remarkable success, bringing together Riviera owners for a weekend filled with connection, learning, and memorable experiences. From the start, this event highlighted the strong community spirit that defines R Marine Crawley and its owners, with participants eagerly gathering and setting off together.
The event began on Friday, August 9th, with the initial meeting at the top of Sovereign Islands at 9:30 am. A flotilla of 17 Riviera vessels at the beginning, cruised through Moreton Bay, picking up additional boats along the way near Raby Bay and Cleveland. The growing convoy was an impressive sight as it entered Pummicestone Passage, with 19 Riviera boats anchoring up—this must have been a remarkable sight for those on the shore or crossing the bridge to Bribie Island.
Upon arrival, owners had some time to unwind, with some choosing to visit other vessels, such as the Riviera 64 Sports Motor Yacht, ‘Legend,’ for a meet and greet. The relaxed atmosphere set the tone for the weekend, where new friendships began to blossom.
Friday afternoon brought everyone together for a friendly round of barefoot bowls at Bongaree Bowls Club. From 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, the group enjoyed the beautiful weather on the green, under the expert guidance of three club coaches. The competitive spirit was alive and well, with many showing off their skills. It was a perfect way to start the weekend, blending light-hearted competition with a touch of relaxation.
As the sun set, the group moved to ‘The Jetty’ restaurant for a delightful dinner. With 50 attendees spread across four tables in a special section of the restaurant, the evening was filled with laughter, delicious food, and shared stories. New acquaintances were made with the dinner, a chance to meet new Riviera owners.
Saturday morning greeted the group with a windy southerly, prompting a change of plans. Originally we were to stay at Bribie Island with a visit to Sandstone Point for lunch, the flotilla instead set off for Myora, seeking shelter from the gusty conditions. The change was smoothly communicated to the owners before the trip began, who adapted with ease.
Upon reaching Myora, North Stradbroke Island the group made their way to the ‘Little Ship Club’ for a midday lunch with everyone getting there by their own tenders as the anchorage is just around the corner. The atmosphere was lively as everyone enjoyed a delightful lunch and engaged in a spirited nautical trivia competition. The trivia was a hit, with everyone getting into the spirit of the game. Riviera Flybridge owner Justin, emerged victorious, happily receiving the prize—a $150 Dan Murphys voucher. The friendly competition added an extra layer of fun to the day, bringing out the best in everyone.
After lunch, the group tendered back to their boats. Some chose to raft up for the night, while others anchored solo, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the surroundings. The evening brought a special treat—a small fire on an exposed sandbar which was available after sunset. Some of the group gathered around, sharing stories and enjoying the warmth until the incoming tide safely snuffed out the fire. It was a perfect way to wind down after the days activities, leaving everyone with a sense of contentment as they returned to their boats for the night.
Sunday morning marked the end of the RMC Bribie Island Escape 2024. As the sun rose, some boats departed solo, heading back to their respective marinas or home berths, while the rest of the fleet traveled together in convoy back to the Gold Coast. The return journey was a time for reflection on the weekend’s events—a weekend filled with new experiences, strengthened friendships, and a deepened appreciation for the Riviera community.
The RMC Bribie Island Escape 2024 was a great success, particularly in welcoming new participants and vessels to our growing RMC community. This year, we focused on creating local experiences that allowed us to include a larger number of boats, making it possible for more owners to join in the fun. We were pleased to see how well the event was received, and we’re already looking forward to organising more local adventures that bring our Riviera owners together in enjoyable and meaningful ways.
